The International Scientific Committee
The International Scientific Committee used to:
- Define the scientific program of PETAL in the context of HiPER for the first two years of operation of the system, which means 1 LIL quadruplet (quad) and 1 multi PW.
- Define a few simple experiments that can be done with PETAL which will be useful for the HiPER program (especially in the fast ignition context).
- Determine the most essential characteristics of PETAL (intensity, energy, pulse duration, contrast ratio, geometry of the configuration, quality of the focalisation, etc.) to be kept as scheduled, and which of them should be modified to improve its capacity to meet its scientific programme or to reduce the cost without strongly degrading its interest.
- Define what specific or novel diagnostics should be set up.
Reports of the scientific committee are on line:
- October 5th 2007
- June 27th 2007
The Science Advisory Committee for PETAL
The General objectives of the SACP are:
- To advise the Laser and Plasma Institute (ILP) on the appropriate balance of the scientific programme to be carried out which is of high scientific merit and which utilises the characteristics of the PETAL and LIL laser systems.
- To advise the ILP on the scientific and technical questions impacting the design and operation of PETAL.
- To advise ILP on the selection of proposals and allocation of facility time in response to applications from the national and international community.
- To advise ILP on opportunities for collaboration with other research organisations and the development of the facility.
The members of the SACP are:
Henry Hutchinson, François Amiranoff, Stefano Atzeni, Gilles Chabrier, Mike Dunne, Francis Hardouin, Stefan Hüller, David Meyerhofer, Kunioki Mima, Patrick Mora, Guy Schurtz, Oswald Willi.
